The Land of the Midnight Sun Presents: Epic Bad "A" Awards

I have to take this time to present the International Epic Bad A Awards. These go to the people that are so bad A, that they deserve an award for it, enough said. The first goes to the Bad A Bike Ride. No offense to those professional riders or anyone that has the skill to do death defying tricks on the bike, but they lost to Sn Eck, Mk3 Rambin and Myself. The reasons are that they are not in the arctic Tundra. I didn’t even need a kickstand, the snow held the bike up. If you are still harboring doutbs, we saw a seal at the end of our ride. I had my binoculars so you just have believe me that it was a seal. Moving on to the Best wood Pile award going to Bm2 Gardner, Bm2 Peterson, Chief Warrant Officer Boyle, Sk2 Hunt and Myself. We loaded two farm carts of driftwood from around the station and Then Had a Bad A Bon Fire. As you can see from the pictures. Some of the timber took four people to pick up. It was a fun day. The final Bad A Award goes to Sn Fuller. For the Melt your face like the guy from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark Guitar Skills. She is so good that when she plays the population of the connex doubles. She has achieved more effect on the party than beer. It is a close call, but she takes it. Just look at the pictures and you will agree. So that concludes the presentation of the International Epic Bad A Awards. Hope you enjoyed and now moving on the other things.

As I have said before about the sun up here, it sets really late and rises really early. I got this crazy idea to try to catch the aurora coming out by staying up until the sun set at 0100 and wait until it got dark. Well it never got dark, but I got some great pictures it turned out alright. The first Picture is from about 0100, the Second is about 0200, the Third with the silhouette it around 0230 and the final is at 0300. The sun never really set, but it was beautiful. In the meantime I was taking pictures of the party going on in the connex and the Rec Deck. Fs3 Scott in his current mental state of believing he was famous was kind enough to pose for a photograph with Hs1 Buffington. Earlier that night Et2 Pojar decided to be carried down the Hallway by Sn Eck and Fs1 Chattin. It was a good party. Sn Fuller made it possible due to her melt your face like the guy from Indiana Jones and theRaiders of the Lost Ark Guitar Skills. Dc1 Lacasse is an prime example of the effect of these skills. He is the one in the 80's Rocker Mode.
Well that is about it for the day, I have less than ten days until leave and I still can’t wait to see family and friends. So until then have a wonderful day and enjoy every moment.

A Beautiful Day

I finally got out of the station and got to take some pictures. It feels like I have gotten out of the station in ages. I barrowed a digital Camera and took SK2 Hunt for a tour of the station grounds. It was a beautiful day as you can see and it was nice to feel the sun on my face without the stinging freezing wind. We have two new female seaman here that are doing quite well. They have no problem dishing back when people try to give them crap. It is actually very entertaining, a source of many smiles. So thank you Seaman Fuller and Seaman Eck. This is complimented by her exemplary scooter skills.
Back to the Station Grounds Tour. There is many tons of standing water around us now not including the bay or the ocean. The Whistle Pigs as we call them are our and about. I saw at least ten. Haley had a good time chasing them. She disappeared after one and we saw her about an hour later. So she had a good time. During my travels I saw several shipmates on the quads and some awesome scenery. As you can see I am very luck man. I have been given the opportunity to see and live in environments that few even see in their life time.
As you can see there is still snow on the beach and the bay and ocean are still partially frozen. It is beginning to break through. IT is difficult to see, but there are cracks down the entire snow covered beach where the ice has given way to water or land. The snow slopes in the distance are slowly collapsing and revealing the ground and rock below them. It may sound trivial, but when it snows so much and all you see is white. Seeing the contrasting browns, greens and various shades of color are a very welcoming sight.
Not nearly as colorful as the fall colors of Danville, but colorful in its own way. I wonder how it will look when I get back from mid-tour. Enjoy the pictures and Have a wonderful day. I will be in California very soon.

Going Home ... Almost

The reservations are made, confirmed and I cannot wait to see the family while I leave a different family for a short while. Taking a vacation from Alaska and all the beauty I have seen here as you can see from past postings. It is hard to believe that it has been nearly Seven Months since I arrived here. After being in the sunlight for so long I am missing seeing the moon around once in a while. It is nice to be able to always see outside, but the night has a beauty of its own that I have been missing lately. I have some wonderful friends up here and experiences I will never forget. Still, I miss those that have been such an important part of my life. I was blessed to have the family I have. I have the best direct family a man can ask for and the best extended family anyone can expect. That may sound corny, but its true. They may be a little crazy, but how fun would they be if they were just normal? I look forward to seeing everyone at home in California. Have a wonderful day, I will be home soon.

An Early Summer Alaskan Dream

Long days and very short nights are the mark of the season. Although we still have plenty of snow here, it is melting very quickly. The weather is comfortable and if there is no fog you can see to infinity. When there is fog, it is like living in a snow globe. Even the tower only a quarter mile away is hidden from our sight. And in this beautiful and sometimes cloaking weather, two close shipmate moved on the greener pastures. Delayed, but they made it out of the fog eventually. As much as I will miss them, I am happy that they are were they want to be, both a benefit to the station and good friends to all that knew them.
For me it was the first to leave that I was close enough to, to miss. As for the others, I was not here long enough to get to know them or really become an intricate part of the stations microcosm of society. I miss them because they became a part of my experience, proud to say a positive side. But enough of that. As you can see I included some pictures of the beauty I see up here. I got my mid tour approved and my flights arranged so I will see the family soon. Have a wonderful day.
